This is how our hotel grew from the original Wagoners’ Inn into a reputed Relais & Chateaux Hotel in Wittgenstein:
The farmhouse built by Heinrich-Friedrich Dornhöfer (1856-1938) was already known as a regional foresters' meeting place.
His son Heinrich Dornhöfer (1889-1945) extended the building and opened a tavern, receiving thereby the first licence to purvey beer, ale, liquor and tobacco products to be consumed on the premises.
Conversion to an inn that became in insider tip for foresters and forestry workers, carters and wagoners.
Due to the inn’s great popularity as a meeting place and lack of space, the village hall was built on to the guestroom.
New kitchens added by Heinrich-Friedrich Dornhöfer’s grandson Heinrich Dornhöfer (1914-1974).
